Accessible Activity Design Sprint
Design practical, joyful learning and play activities that children with visual impairment can use at school or at home.
- Time
- Around 1–2 hours, at your own pace
- You'll create
- An accessible activity plan (Markdown + print)
A worked example: magnetic sorting lab
Class 6 · Exploring magnetic materials. Learners predict, test and group objects by whether a magnet attracts them. This illustrative plan needs Vision Empower review before use.
Materials: large magnet, large wooden and steel objects with smooth edges, two trays and tactile tray labels. Facilitator checks size, edges and magnet handling.
- Orient the learner to the trays and offer time to explore each object.
- Ask the learner to predict attraction, then move the magnet towards each object and feel the pull.
- Sort by the observed result. Invite an explanation and test a new object.
Access: verbal orientation and optional tactile labels; high contrast for low vision; learner chooses whether to handle or direct the experiment. No colour-only grouping.
Evidence: the learner sorts an unfamiliar object and explains the test. Tags: magnetism, material properties, prediction.
Your path through the studio
- Choose a learning goal. Choose the class and a learning outcome. You will turn this goal into an inclusive, hands-on activity that a teacher can run with the available resources.
- Choose your materials. Select realistic materials. Add DIY alternatives where useful. Availability must be confirmed locally; this is not a list of Vision Empower stock.
- Explore activity ideas. Use your own expertise, or copy this complete brief into an AI tool. Ask for several options, then choose one to develop in the next step.
- Write your activity. Turn your chosen idea into a complete activity. Class, outcome and selected resources are already in your brief. Edit the materials list to include quantities and anything the facilitator needs.
- Check access & safety. Add sensory adaptations, safety notes and guidance for observing participation without assuming visual responses.
- Check and submit. Read the preview, tick each check, then submit for Vision Empower review.
