Build an Agent Skill

Create reusable guidance that helps AI tools produce accessible, inclusive content for people with visual impairment. No coding required.

Time
Around 2–3 hours, at your own pace
You'll create
A reusable SKILL.md guidance file
A worked example: accessible product announcements

Domain: communications. Task: draft a product announcement email that remains understandable with a screen reader.

Guidance: use meaningful headings and descriptive links; give informative images contextual alt text; never rely on colour, placement or emoji to carry meaning. Ask for missing product facts instead of inventing them.

Example request: “Announce three subscription tiers.” Expected result: clearly named tiers with their features in reading order, descriptive signup links and no “click the green button” instructions.

Check: read the output without images and inspect its headings and links. Record actual findings and limitations before submitting.

Your path through the studio

  1. Choose your domain. Choose a professional domain and one concrete task. You will create reusable instructions that help an AI tool make accessible output for that task.
  2. Explore skill ideas. Write your own approach or use the complete prompt to compare three candidate skills. Choose one before drafting your submission.
  3. Build the guidance. Write substantive guidance for each section. Aim for concrete, testable instructions rather than general encouragement.
  4. Add examples. Show the skill working with at least one before/after comparison.
  5. Check and refine. Review against non-visual alternatives, reading order, accessible formatting and assumptions about vision. Test manually or in an AI tool of your choice and record what you saw.
  6. Check and submit. Read the preview, confirm the details that go into the SKILL.md front matter, tick each check, then submit for Vision Empower review.
